The Villas

There are lots of lovely places to stay in Costa Rica, yet very few are on the beach, with direct access to the beach and ocean. When we found a piece of property nestled in the forest but very close to the beach, we bought it despite the many complications of owning* property in the “Maritime Zone.” Regardless, we’re delighted we did because the proximity to the beach is vital to making full use of the beauty of Costa Rica

The Villas
A modern two-story villa with a pool in the backyard, illuminated with interior and exterior lights, surrounded by trees at dusk. The villa is located among tall trees in the primary forest.
Villa Norte
A modern house with a swimming pool in the backyard, surrounded by lush greenery and tall palm trees, with outdoor furniture including lounge chairs and a dining table under a covered patio. Beyond the palms lies a broad beach and the warm waters.
Villa Central
A two-story villa with a balcony is surrounded by lush green trees and bushes, with a mountain in the background under a clear blue sky. Primary forest trees tower above the villa.
Villa Sur

Dominical

The closest town to our villas is Dominical, which is about 40 minutes south of Quepos and Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio. Home to about 800 residents, Dominical is known for its great surfing, diverse restaurants, adventurous activities, and laid-back attitude. There are no high-rise buildings, no big resorts, no casinos. What it does have is the best of Costa Rica: bio-diversity, friendly people, and miles (or rather kilometers) of gorgeous beaches.

This section has information on restaurants in the area, surfing and swimming, eco-adventures, day trips by car, and other activities.

Dominical and the South Pacific Coast
A group of five young girls sitting at a dinner table with glasses of water and wine, a flower arrangement, and a red napkin in a restaurant setting. The restaurant looks inviting for diners of all ages.
Dining
A man walking on the beach carrying a surfboard, with a young girl and a paddleboard in the ocean nearby. The surf is gentle and the water is warm and inviting.
Surf
People standing on a sandy beach near the shoreline, with some sitting and some holding surfboards. There is an overhanging tree branch at the top and a blue beach umbrella with a chair underneath in the foreground. The ocean waves are approaching the beach, and there is a rocky cliff on the right side.

visiting Costa Rica

While we’re not tour operators or travel agents, we have visited Costa Rica over 50 times in the last couple of decades, and we’ve gathered some information that may be of use to new travelers, and veteran travelers as well. This section includes information on flying to Costa Rica, renting a car, driving customs, the climate, etc.
